Research Objectives

The research objectives of the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre are : 
  • To develop new design concepts for anti-cancer drugs
  • To develop new drugs for clinical trial
  • To develop new methods of improving the use of existing drugs
  • To investigate the mutagenic risks of cancer drugs, and of various environmental influences.

Research Structure

The ACSRC is comprised of four major research groups :

  • Chemistry/Drug Design (Professor Bill Denny)
  • Cancer Biology (Professor Bruce Baguley)
  • Experimental Oncology (Professor Bill Wilson)
  • Centre for Mutagen Testing (Professor Lynn Ferguson) 

Academic Programme Summary

Staff organise and teach the fourth-year papers  : 704 (Principles of Cancer Therapy) and 705 (Principles of Cancer Biology) in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences BScHons programme, and the fourth-year paper CHEM 735 in the Faculty of Science BScHons programme.
