CANcer HELPline

Sometimes just talking with someone who understands how devastating a diagnosis of cancer can be, is helpful and reassuring. The CANcer HELPline is available to all patients, families and carers.  Your call will be answered by an experienced nurse, and if you wish, this service remains anonymous and confidential.

What help is available?

We will listen, to find out what information and support you need. If you are uncertain what you need, talking may help to make things clearer. We will try to make it easier for you to understand the information you already have about a cancer diagnosis, cancer tests and cancer treatments. We can discuss your treatment options, which may help you make the decisions that are right for you.

We may be able to suggest ways for you to establish a helpful relationship with your doctors and nurses e.g. by giving you useful questions to ask.  You may also wish to seek our advice on how to talk to your family members, children or friends about cancer.

We can guide you to the variety of services that may be able to help you e.g. Cancer Society services, private and public health services, welfare and support agencies. Sometimes internet information can be overwhelming - we can help you decide what internet information will be most useful for you. You may need help to find information about a rare or unusual cancer, we can assist with this.

You or your family may prefer to talk to a nurse in person at Domain Lodge. You will be given all the time you need, in a calm, unhurried atmosphere.
